New things, old things

On many blogs I visit, I find lists of ‘new things to do before [a certain date, usually a birthday]’. It seems that the idea has grown on me, as well, because I recently found myself quite swayed by the concept. (Thanks for the inspiration is mainly due to Sarah Von Bargen of Yes and Yes – Sarah’s lists always include such fun and exotic things to do!) And yet, because I’m awfully original, I had to do it in my own fashion. Hence, I’ve decided to make a double list: of new things to do, and of old things to re-do. Because haven’t you ever done something that you told yourself you MUST do again? Read a book that you KNEW you’d have to come back to someday? Prepared a tricky dish that you HAD to recreate on a different occasion? I’m sure you did. Because I did. (And the truth is that we’re all pretty much the same deep down in the porous marrow of our souls.)

Here, then, is my list of old things and new things to undertake before October 2012 closes its doors on us. (Yes, it corresponds with my birthday, which is in November.) I’ll be documenting some of them (anything you’d like to hear about particularly? let me know!) and will hopefully not have completed checking off both lists within the next three months! (Knowing how diligent I am.) Since this is my first public list of things to do, I’ve kept it humble in both numbers and goals, choosing to aim for nine achievable tasks (because nine is my second favourite number), some of which I’ve been wanting to get done for a very long time.

9 new things

1.         take a cooking class
2.         climb the hill in front of my house
3.         take the DELE exam, and pass
4.         read Le deuxième sexe by Simone de Beauvoir
5.         wear a fancy underwear set on no special occasion
6.         try 4 new restaurants in Prague
7.         make a dish with seaweed
8.         make butter
9.         reach an average of more than 10 000 steps per day on my step counter

9 old things

1.         take a half-holiday for two to four weeks
2.         give a homemade food gift
3.         re-read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
4.         make a deep-dish pizza
5.         ride a train
6.         have lunch in a park
7.         write a poem
8.         build a mini snowman OR make a faceprint in the snow (whichever strikes me first)
9.         attend a live music concert

What do you think? Feel free to join me in any of the above!

I'm joining you in number 7 of your 9 new things. Yes . . . and 5.

Making butter is hard work! We'll forgive you if you somehow fail to check that one off your list. ;-)

Carlos: I was hoping you would! We should compare notes. *----*

Marvin the Martian: Ha! Now, I'll have to make butter even if it takes two whole days with a sleepless night sandwiched in-between! (I intend to use an electric mixer, however. ;o)
